2017 has started off with a bang at sea. This new year has brought with it endless trends we expect to see popping up over the coming months and hope to be able to try out on some of our maritime adventures. There’s something for everyone among the nautical trends of 2017. Pleasure-craft skippers will have loads of choices. From sailboats to superyachts, any news in our sector is more than welcome!
Below we’ll tell you about some of the trends in the pleasure-craft arena:
1. Hybrid boats and electric motors
Hybrid or 100% electric motors are starting to find their place in the nautical sector. Their advantages include important fuel savings and the obvious benefits in terms of autonomy. However, they are also gaining support from those who want their sailing to be as eco-friendly as possible. Plus, although initially it may seem like a less affordable option, there are some truly competitive models on the market. Fancy coming over to the ECO side of sailing?
2. More space on board
One of the things people ask for most is more space on board. An expandable beam is a good solution for those looking to get a few extra meters on their vessel. Once in the water, the sides can be separated from the midsection to make the boat more spacious. At first, fold-out gunwales were the only option, but now they have evolved to integrate the whole vessel.
3. Drinking water instantly
The sector is evolving and becoming more modern, and old traditions are starting to be left behind. These include stocking a boat with jugs of water. 4. The sun as an energy source
Years ago, it was unthinkable for the sun to be a source of energy, much less aboard a ship. However, as of last year, it is now possible to have photovoltaic solar energy (solar panels) aboard ships. It is surely one of the best solutions for always having full batteries. Although it may seem like a costly investment at the beginning, it is quickly recouped if you look at the fuel saved charging the battery or plugging in while in port.
5. More hydro-propelled toys
In addition to sailing, the sea is also a good place to have fun. Jetavation Inc., the company that created the famous Flyboard, has launched a new toy propelled by jets of water. It’s called the Jetovator, a jet pack with a motorcycle seat that can shoot riders 9 metres out of the water at a speed of 40 km/h and also works underwater.
